What Are PFAS and Why Are They Dangerous?
PFAS (perfluoroalkyl or poly-fluoroalkyl substances) are a group of man-made chemicals that have been used in a variety of industries for over 70 years. They are found in products such as non-stick cookware, water-repellent clothing, and stain-resistant fabrics. They are also used in firefighting foams and some food packaging.
PFAS can leach into drinking water supplies. Although they are not regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), some studies have linked PFAS exposure to various health concerns, including cancer, thyroid disease, fertility problems, and more. As a result, PFAS exposure is a growing concern for both public health officials and consumers.
While there are steps you can take to limit your exposure to PFAS, the only way to completely remove them from your drinking water is with whole home water filtration or water purification systems that specifically address PFAS contamination.
